Have you noticed something missing in Chrome tabs the past couple of days?
When you open a new tab in Chrome, you used to see links for Gmail, Apps, and your Account(s) in the upper right of the tab.
Those are now gone. Looks like with ver. 60.0.3112.101 (Official Build) (64-bit)
EDIT: I was testing as I was writing. After running the cleanup tool and signing in to Chrome, those links are still not there… So there may be a real issue (or change to Chrome) and we will have to wait and see what happens……
About 3 days later the icons reappeared for no known reason. My version number was exactly the same as it had been for the past couple of days, but it was downloading a new one.
I looked in the Google support forums and even added my own post. So far the official answer I have seen is to make sure you are logged in to Google Account Services and to try the Chrome cleanup tool. Because “ I haven’t seen any recent reports of Chrome being the culprit of this” – from Google Employee. I am not listing him by name.
I have NEVER used this. I don’t care about my bookmarks following me from device to device. And I just noticed this change yesterday (8/18/17).
I did notice a few days before that there was a new Account icon in the windows top bar next to the minimize button. My mother even asked me about that icon, so I assume most people did notice it. It has the more-less familiar “User” look to it. Like me you probably clicked on it to check what it was and closed it as soon as you’re suspicions were confirmed.
I looked in the Chrome settings to get my version # and I noticed a UI change. It looked different. I kind of remember seeing or hearing something that Chrome was working on some kind of UI change…
At the top of the Settings now is “People” with your Account information top and center. It used to be about half way down the settings page.
I am thinking Google just wants to have more people signed in.
STOPPING NOW BECAUSE I JUST SIGNED INTO CHOME AND THOSE LINKS ARE STILL NOT THERE…. EDITING TOP OF POST.
